When Simon Met Catherine
The LeBlanc, Carrier(e), and Hollier family reunions were established to help us discover, celebrate, and strengthen the family connections we share. Those connections can be traced back to the birth of Simon LeBlanc in 1735 and his eventual marriage to Catherine Thibodeaux.
From that one unique union, the LeBlanc, Carrier(e), and Hollier family ties were formed. Across our three families, we are connected by a rich and diverse history that continues to shape our shared legacy.
For more than five decades, our reunions have given us a place to honor our Creole roots and traditions, celebrate family milestones, welcome new family members, and strengthen our bonds through memories that can be passed down to future generations.
Family reunions have long played an important role in the African American community. They give families a chance to recount history, celebrate traditions, teach younger generations, and keep family connections alive.
It is our hope that the 2027 LCH Family Reunion, “Sharing Family Harmony from the KC Heartland,” will inspire each of us to help continue this meaningful tradition. By gathering, remembering, and celebrating together, we help ensure that our combined family history remains relevant and lives on for generations to come.
Content inspired by A Family History: LeBlanc/Carriere/Hollier, authored, nurtured, and published by Wilma Lee (LeBlanc) Findley and Jim Findley. The original historical book is now housed by the U.S. Library of Congress.
A Tale of Two Kansas Cities
Kansas City sits on the border of the Kansas and Missouri state line; creating even more ways to explore, connect, and enjoy the weekend.
Kansas City, Kansas (KCK) offers a welcoming, family-centered setting with deep community roots, massive shopping centers, and local legacies.
Kansas City, Missouri (KCMO) adds a metropolitan energy with it's renowned barbecue restaurants, bustling nightlife scene, and rich sports and music history.
Together, the Kansas City area has something to offer every branch of the family tree.
-
Kansas City has one of the most meaningful military history stops in the country with the National WWI Museum and Memorial. It gives veterans, military families, and anyone who values service a place that feels worth making time for. Between the museum exhibits, Liberty Memorial, the memorial grounds, and the skyline views, this is one of the best places in KC to slow down, reflect, and honor the people who served.
-
Kansas City is built for sports fanatics. Family members can visit the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, catch a Royals MLB game, check out the interactive NCAA College Basketball Experience, head off to races the Kansas Speedway, or catch a riverfront game at the first stadium in the world built exclusively for a women's professional sports team. Whether someone cares about baseball history, college hoops, US and World Cup soccer, NASCAR, and of course, NFL championships, KC has more than enough to build a day around.
-
Kansas City has deep music roots, especially for anyone who loves jazz, live bands, and a fun night out. The 18th & Vine districts gives visitors the history via the American Jazz Museum and then brings them to present day with fun 2-step night at the Jukehouse after dinner. This is the kind of city where music is not just a background detail — it is part of the culture.
-
Kansas City is a playground for curious kids, teens, and adults who want something hands-on. Science City inside Union Station is the anchor, with interactive exhibits that make it easy for families to spend a few hours there without it feeling like a school trip. Add the planetarium, SEA LIFE Aquarium, the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium, and other Union Station exhibits, and KC becomes a strong pick for families who want activities that are fun but still have some substance.
-
From world-class museums to beautiful public spaces, Kansas City gives art lovers a lot to behold. The Nelson-Atkins is the big anchor, with iconic outdoor sculptures and galleries that can fill an afternoon. The Crossroads District add contemporary art, small galleries, and a more creative neighborhood feel. KC is also known as the City of Fountains, so the art does not stop at the museum doors. The Country Club Plaza brings Spanish-style architecture and shopping, the downtown library’s giant bookshelf gives literature lovers one of the city’s most unique photo stops, and you can see global acts at the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts.
-
Kansas City is one of the barbecue capitals of the country, so this is the place for anyone who plans a trip around where they’re eating. You can go classic with Joe’s, Gates, or Arthur Bryant’s, do a more polished sit-down barbecue stop like Q39, or explore River Market for local vendors, spices, produce, snacks, and small food shops. If someone only knows KC for barbecue, good — because the city actually delivers on the reputation.
-
Kansas City has a lot more history than people usually realize. Union Station brings the railroad story and classic architecture, the Gangster Tour brings the mob history and old KC underworld stories, 18th & Vine connects visitors to jazz and Black cultural history, Quindaro Ruins ties in freedom and settlement, and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum shows how much national history runs through this city. Not to mention you can visit the exact historic landing site where Lewis and Clark camped in 1804. KC is perfect for family members with a little historian in them.
-
Kansas City has a lot to offer family members who want the trip to feel active, loud, fast, or just more fun. Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun bring the roller coasters, water rides, games, and summer energy, while Kansas Speedway adds racing, noise, and speed. For something closer to downtown, the KC Wheel gives people a 150-foot view over the city, and Pennway Putt adds a casual mini-golf option right next to it. Add escape rooms, Topgolf, and the zoo, and KC gives thrill seekers enough reasons to come early, stay late, or build a whole extra day around the reunion.
-
Kansas City has plenty for family members who want dinner, drinks, music, and a reason to keep the night going. The Power & Light District brings the bigger downtown energy with bars, restaurants, and live entertainment, while Crossroads gives people breweries, cocktail spots, galleries, and a more laid-back creative feel. Westport is another classic area for bars and nightlife, and places like Green Lady Lounge or 18th & Vine give the night a more Kansas City flavor with live jazz, dancing, and grown-up energy.
